ANZAC Day – 2014

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning,

We will remember them.

Lest we forget.

It’s been a really good day, on this 99th anniversary of the Landings. Went to the Dawn Service this morning, and caught up with a couple of old mates face to face, as well as speak to more on the phone.

My Regiment went ashore on D+2, and fought with distinction in those hills.

After rest and refit, we went onto the desert with Uncle Harry to continue the fight against Johnny Turk, where so many troubles are still evident in those blighted biblical lands. I often wonder what may have turned out today had we been more active in the post-war administration of those regions.

My thoughts and prayers are with my tribe – the ADF, no matter our Service, Corps or Regiment.

We’ve sacrificed more good blokes in the last ten years of operational deployments.

My fervent wish is for peace to all men, and inner peace for those of us who have served and made some big sacrifices for this great nation – The Lucky Country.

Next year, being the centenary, is something I’m planning on being a particularly big day. It’s going to be special for us.

Please feel free to join me in a toast.

To the Regiment!

To the boys!

FORWARD!
